Cockpit — Validations Tile
Monitor Validation scenario execution results, analyze trends, and drill into session details from the Cockpit dashboard.
Overview
The Validations tile on the Cockpit dashboard provides a real-time summary of all Validation scenario executions. It displays the number of executions, passed validations, failed validations, and errors over a configurable time window.
Like the Reconciliations tile, the Validations tile supports Line Chart, Pie Chart, and Tabular views, and allows direct drill-down navigation to Validation Summary and exception pages.
Prerequisites
- You are logged in to Data Trust with a Pro-User or Admin Pro-User role.
- At least one Validation scenario has been executed.
Figure 1: Data Trust Cockpit — Validations tile visible in the dashboard
The Validations tile appears on the Cockpit dashboard alongside the other tiles. It tracks Validation scenario executions — how many ran, how many passed, failed, or errored — giving you an immediate sense of validation health without opening the Validation module.
Accessing the Validations Tile
Path: Data Trust › Cockpit- Log in to Data Trust.
The Cockpit dashboard loads. The Validations tile appears in the dashboard, showing a line chart of Validation execution activity by default.
All Users vs. Single User View
Figure 2: Validations tile — All Users view showing platform-wide validation execution data
All Users mode aggregates Validation execution data from every user on the platform. Administrators use this to get a complete picture of total validation health across all teams and workflows.
Figure 3: Validations tile — Single User view scoped to the logged-in user's validations
Single User mode restricts the chart to Validation executions owned by your account. Switch to this mode when you want to track your own validation workflow without seeing other users' activity mixed in.
- Click the user icon (person silhouette) in the Validations tile header to toggle
between All Users and Single User mode.
The tile refreshes and displays data for the selected scope.
Selecting a Time Range
Figure 4: Validations tile — time range selector with 5D, 1W, and 1M options
The 5D, 1W, and 1M selector controls how much historical execution data the chart displays. Use 1M when you want to identify recurring failure patterns over time, and 5D for a focused view of the most recent activity.
- Click 5D, 1W, or 1M in the tile header to
change the time range.
The chart updates to show validation execution data for the selected period.
Chart Legend
Figure 5: Validations tile — chart legend showing color-coded series for each execution status
The legend maps each colored line to an outcome: Executions, Pass, Fail, and Error. The color assigned to each series is consistent whether you are viewing a Line Chart or Pie Chart, keeping the mapping predictable.
Figure 6: Validations tile — clicking a legend item strikes it through and hides it from the chart
Clicking a legend item strikes it through and removes that series from the chart. This is especially helpful when the Executions line dwarfs the other series — hiding it rescales the chart so Fail and Error trends become clearly visible.
- Click the Legend icon in the tile action bar to show the legend.
- Click any legend item to toggle its series visibility on the chart.
Refreshing the Tile
Figure 7: Validations tile — Refresh icon in the action bar
The Refresh icon reloads the Validations tile with the latest execution counts from the server. Use it after triggering a batch of validations to see the updated results without reloading the whole Cockpit page.
- Click the Refresh icon (↻) to reload the latest validation data.
Tabular View
Figure 8: Validations tile — Tabular view showing Executions, Pass, Fail, and Error counts
Tabular view replaces the chart with a simple four-row count table. Use this when you need precise numeric totals for reporting — for example, the exact number of failed validations in the past week.
- Click the Tabular icon to switch from the chart to a count table.
A four-row table appears showing Executions, Pass, Fail, and Error totals for the active time range and user scope.
Drilling Down from the Tabular View
Each row in the tabular view is a hyperlink. Clicking it navigates to the Validation Output Browser, pre-filtered by that status, so you can inspect individual scenario results.
Figure 9: Validations tabular view — clicking the Executions row to navigate to filtered scenarios
Each row in Tabular view is a clickable link. Clicking Executions opens the Validation Output Browser pre-filtered to all scenarios that ran in the current time window, saving you the step of manually applying filters.
Figure 10: Validation Output Browser — list of validation scenarios filtered by the selected execution status
The Validation Output Browser lists all scenarios matching the filter you selected. Browse the list to identify which specific validations ran and click any scenario name to inspect its configuration or results.
Figure 11: BDV Edit page — opened by clicking a Bulk Data Validation scenario from the list
The BDV (Bulk Data Validation) Edit page shows the full scenario configuration including data connections, validation rules, and execution history. Open it when you need to understand why a validation produced unexpected results or to adjust its rules.
- In the Tabular view, click an Executions, Pass,
Fail, or Error row.
The Validation Output Browser opens, filtered to scenarios with the selected execution outcome.
- Click any scenario in the list to open its Edit page for detailed review.
Figure 12: Validation scenario — clicking the Status icon to open the Validation Summary
The Status icon on each scenario tile in the Validation Output Browser acts as a one-click shortcut. Its color tells you the outcome at a glance, and clicking it opens the Validation Summary without having to open the full scenario configuration.
Figure 13: Validation Summary session page — execution details for the selected scenario
The Validation Summary session page shows the execution details for a single run: field-level pass/fail results, record counts, and the timestamp. Use this to understand exactly which fields passed or failed validation for this particular run.
- From the Validation Output Browser, click the Status icon on any scenario to open its Validation Summary page with execution session details.
Pie Chart View
Figure 14: Validations tile — Pie Chart view showing distribution of execution outcomes
Pie Chart view shows the outcome distribution as proportional slices. A large Pass slice versus a small Fail slice immediately tells you that most validations are succeeding — no need to read numbers to get the story.
Figure 15: Validations Pie Chart — hovering over the Passed segment shows the count
Hovering over any pie segment shows a tooltip with the exact count of scenarios in that outcome category. This gives you the precise number without having to switch to Tabular view.
Figure 16: Validation Output Browser — navigated to by clicking the Passed segment
Clicking the Passed segment navigates directly to the Validation Output Browser pre-filtered to show only passing scenarios. This is a fast path for reviewing successful runs without applying filters manually.
Figure 17: BDV Edit page — opened from the Validation Output Browser drill-down
Clicking any scenario in the filtered Validation Output Browser opens its BDV Edit page for a full inspection of field mappings, data connections, and the most recent execution results.
- Click the Pie Chart icon to switch to pie chart mode.
- Click any segment to drill down to the corresponding filtered Validation list.
Line Chart — Hovering for Details
Figure 18: Validations tile — Line Chart view showing historical validation execution trends
The Line Chart is the default Validations tile view. Each colored line represents an outcome type plotted day by day, making it easy to spot whether failures are increasing, decreasing, or staying flat over the selected period.
Figure 19: Validations Line Chart — hovering over a data point shows a tooltip with exact counts for that date
Hovering over any data point on the line chart reveals a tooltip with exact counts per outcome for that specific date — useful when you want to pinpoint the volume on a particular day without switching to Tabular view.
- In the Line Chart view, hover over any data point to see a tooltip with exact execution counts for that date.
- Click a data point to navigate to the Validation Summary page for scenarios executed on that date.
Expanding the Tile
Figure 20: Validations tile — clicking the Expand icon to open the full-width view
The Expand icon opens the Validations chart in full-width mode, giving you significantly more screen space. This is particularly useful when reviewing a 1-month range where daily data points are packed closely together.
Figure 21: Validations tile — Expanded View showing the chart in full width
Expanded View displays the Validations chart at full Cockpit width. The wider canvas makes individual data points easier to read and hover over, and gives more room for the legend labels when many series are visible.
- Click the Expand icon to view the tile in full-width mode.
- Click the Close (X) icon to return to the standard Cockpit layout.
Legend Strike-Through in Expanded View
Figure 22: Validations expanded view — legend item struck through to hide a data series
Legend toggling works the same way in expanded view. Strike through the series you don't need — for example, hiding Executions to keep focus on just the Pass vs. Fail lines — to keep the wide chart clean and readable.
Legend toggling works the same way in the expanded view — click any legend item to show or hide that series in the chart.
