Using Variable Explorer, users can add a value to a variable through Variable Builder. Users can append these variables in REST API or SOAP API and run them in any Query Chains, FDR’s, or Validation scenarios. Variable Explorer has 3 main tabs namely Predefined variables, Predefined functions, and User-defined variables. New variables created by users will be added to the User-defined variables list.
To learn about Variable Explorer, let us walk through the below procedure:
- Click the ‘QUERY STUDIO’ module.
- Hover on the ‘Variable Explorer’ snippet on the left-hand side.
- Click the ‘Variable Explorer’ option.
Path: QUERY STUDIO > Variable Explorer
- A ‘Variable Explorer’ session page is displayed.
- A ‘Refresh’ button is used to refresh the ‘Variable Explorer’ session page.
- A ‘Search’ box is used to search for any variables.
Note: By default, the ‘User-defined variables’ tab is selected.
- Let’s suppose checkbox the first variable (USR_web service) from the ‘Variable Name’ column.
Note: Selecting any variable results in enabling different buttons such as Edit, Delete, Test Results, and Where used info. Only one variable can be selected at one time by the user.
- Click the ‘Edit’ button.
- A ‘USR_web service’ pop-up window is displayed.
- Click the ‘Test Results’ button.
- A ‘Results for USR_web service’ pop-up window is displayed. The user can also view the variable details.
- Click the ‘Where used info’ button.
- A ‘Variable Usage Info’ pop-up window is displayed.
Note: Here, the user can check the details of a particular variable if it is used in any Query Chains, FDRs, or Validation Scenarios by other users.
- The text ‘This variable is unused’ indicates that it is not used anywhere else.
- Click the ‘Delete’ button.
- A ‘Delete Variable’ pop-up window is displayed.
- Clicking the ‘Continue Delete’ button deletes that particular variable.
- Click the ‘Variable Builder’ button.
- A ‘Variable Builder’ session page is displayed with different text field options such as Variable Name, User Groups, Description, Variable Type (By default ‘String List’ is selected), and Enter Value.
Note: By default, ‘Static Values’ is selected for the ‘Input Options’ radio button.
- Fill in all the required details and click the ‘Add’ button.
- The ‘web’ from the ‘Enter Value’ field option is added in the ‘List of values’ field.
- Click the ‘Test variables’ button.
- A ‘Results for web service’ pop-up window is displayed showing the variable.
- Click the ‘Save’ button.
- The user is navigated to the ‘User-defined variables’ tab displaying the created variable (USR_web service).
- Clicking the ‘Predefined functions’ tab displays the predefined functions list.
- Clicking the ‘Predefined variables’ displays the predefined variables list.
