Read-only folder option for Non-admin prousers based on a specific User Group

Admin pro-users can add a folder or subfolder level “read-only” security option to restrict deletion or modification from selective non-admin pro-users added to a specific User Group.

There are two types of read-only security options as shown below:

1. Read-only security option at the folder level

An Admin prouser can add a Folder level “read-only” security option to restrict deletion or modification from a selective non-admin prousers added to a specific User Group.

2. Read-only security option at the sub folder level

An Admin prouser can add a subfolder level read-only security option to restrict deletion or modification from a selective non-admin prousers added to a specific User Group.

Note: The user needs two login users to understand this enhancement. Let’s use an admin prouser (Superadmin here) and a non-admin prouser (Nonadmin Prouser here) to understand the procedure.

1. Read-only security option at the folder level

• Login as an Admin prouser (‘Superadmin’ here).
• After adding the password, click the ‘Log in’ button to login to the console.

• The user is navigated to the console and by default; the ‘COCKPIT’ module is selected.

• Click the QUERY STUDIO tab.
• The user is navigated to the ‘Query Explorer’ session page.
• Let’s suppose add a ‘Read-Only’ option aiming at the main Folder (‘DEMO2 Folder’ here) to restrict it from the specific User Group (‘DEMO2’ here) which has only one non-admin prouser (‘Nonadmin Prouser’ here).

Let’s check if ‘Nonadmin Prouser’ user is available in the User Group ‘DEMO2’:

1. Click the ‘ADMIN CONSOLE’ tab.

2. Hover on the ‘Security’ snippet from the left pane options.

3. Click the ‘User Groups’ option.

4. The user is navigated to the ‘User Groups’ session page.

5. Select the ‘DEMO2’ User Group checkbox.

6. The related User Group ‘Users’ (Nonadmin Prouser) and ‘Profiles’ (PostgreSQL Northwind-QA) are displayed.

Note: It’s clear from the above that there is only one non-admin prouser (‘Nonadmin Prouser’ here) and Profile (PostgreSQL Northwind-QA) within the created User Group (DEMO2) by Superadmin.

• Now from the Query Explorer page, select the ‘DEMO2 Folder’ checkbox and click the extreme right side snippet button.

• A small rectangular slide window that contains the following options such as Delete, Rename. Move, Security, Properties, and Modules are displayed.
• Click the ‘Security’ option.

• The user is navigated to the ‘Restrict the Folder Access to Following User Groups’ session page that has a tabular grid with columns such as User Group Name, Full Access, Allow Read Only (new enhancement added), and Info.
• Select the ‘DEMO2’ User Group checkbox.

Note: As the user checkbox for any ‘User Group’, by default the user can view a checkbox added to the ‘Full Access’ option.

• Now select the ‘Allow Ready Only’ checkbox for ‘DEMO2’ User Group.
• Click the ‘Save’ button.

Note: This action adds the Security ‘Allow Read Only’ access to ‘DEMO2 Folder’ and the ‘DEMO2’ User Group can view this folder ‘DEMO2 Folder’ in read-only mode.

• Let’s now check if this read only security option is working by Logging in to the non-admin prouser (Nonadmin Prouser here).
• Log out from the ‘Superadmin’ prouser.
• Now, Log in to the non-admin prouser as shown here.
• After adding the password, click the ‘Log in’ button.

• The user is navigated to the ‘COCKPIT’ module by default.

• Click the ‘QUERY STUDIO’ tab to view the ‘DEMO2 Folder’ in the ‘Query Explorer’ session page.
• A security icon (lock shaped) is added to the ‘DEMO2 Folder’ in the Query Explorer of this non-admin prouser (‘Nonadmin Prouser’ here).

• Now click the ‘DEMO2 Folder’ created by the ‘Superadmin’ prouser.

• This action displays the ‘DEMO2 Folder’ sub components.
• This folder (DEMO2 Folder) has 1 sub folder (Sub DEMO2 Folder) and two files related to the Postgre SQL profile.
• An eye-shaped icon (Read-Only security option icon) is added to all the components (Subfolders and files) of the main folder (‘DEMO2 Folder’ here).

• Click the subfolder (Sub DEMO2 Folder).

• This action displays its components.
• The user notices a file (Postgre SQL Query using output Query) with an eye-shaped icon that indicates this file has read-only security encryption.

Note: It is clear from the above that a non-admin prouser (‘Nonadmin Prouser’ here) belonging to the ‘DEMO2’ User Group has no access specially to delete or modify the folder (‘DEMO2 Folder’ here) or its components created by an Admin prouser (‘Superadmin’ here). However, a non-admin prouser can view this folder’s (DEMO2 Folder) components but only in ‘Read-only’ mode.

2. Read-only security option at the sub folder level

• Login as an Admin prouser (‘Superadmin’ here).
• After adding the password, click the ‘Log in’ button to login to the console.

• The user is navigated to the ‘COCKPIT’ module by default.

• Click the ‘QUERY STUDIO’ tab.
• The user is navigated to the ‘Query Explorer’ session page.
• Click the ‘DEMO2 Folder’ checkbox.

• This action displays its folder components.
• Let’s suppose add a read-only option to a subfolder (‘Sub DEMO2 Folder’ here) from the main folder (DEMO2 Folder) and restrict it to a specific User Group (‘DEMO2’ here) which has only one non-admin prouser (‘Nonadmin Prouser’ here).

• Let’s check if the ‘Nonadmin Prouser’ user is available in the User Group ‘DEMO2’.

1. Click the ‘ADMIN CONSOLE’ tab.

4. The user is navigated to the ‘User Groups’ session page.

5. Select the ‘DEMO2’ User Group checkbox option.

6. The related User Group ‘Users’ (Nonadmin Prouser) and ‘Profiles’ (PostgreSQL Northwind-QA) are displayed.

Note: It’s clear from the above that there is only one non-admin prouser (‘Nonadmin Prouser’ here) and Profile (PostgreSQL Northwind-QA) within the created User Group (DEMO2) by Superadmin.

• Select the ‘Sub DEMO2 Folder’ checkbox and click the extreme right side snippet button.

• A small rectangular slide window that contains the options such as Delete, Rename, Move, Security, Properties, and Modules are displayed.
• Click the ‘security’ option.

• A ‘Restrict the Folder Access to Following User Groups’ pop-up window is displayed that contains columns such as User Group Name, Full Access, Allow Read Only (new enhancement added), and Info.
• Select the ‘DEMO2’ User Group checkbox.

Note: By default, a checkbox is added under the ‘Full Access’ column when any User Group is selected.

• Now select the ‘Allow Read Only’ checkbox for the ‘DEMO2’ User Group.
• Click the ‘Save’ button to add the security ‘Read only’ option to the subfolder (‘Sub DEMO2 Folder’ here) and to restrict it from the specific User Group ‘DEMO2’ containing only one non-admin prouser (‘Nonadmin Prouser’ here).

• Let’s now verify whether this ‘Read-Only’ security option for the sub folder (Sub DEMO2 Folder) is working by Logging into the non-admin prouser (‘Nonadmin Prouser’ here).
• Log out from the ‘Superadmin’ prouser.
• Log in to the non-admin prouser (‘Nonadmin Prouser’ here) as shown.
• After adding the password, click on the ‘Log in’ button.

• The ‘COCKPIT’ tab is displayed by default.

• Click the ‘QUERY STUDIO’ module to view the ‘DEMO2 Folder’ within the Query Explorer page.
• Click the ‘DEMO2 Folder’.

• This action displays its sub folder (Sub DEMO2 Folder) and other file/profile components.
• The main folder (DEMO2 Folder) has one sub folder (Sub DEMO2 Folder) and two files (QPT-PostgreSQL and Postgresql Using Offset) related to the Postgre SQL profile.
• An eye-shaped icon that is a read-only security option added to the sub folder (‘Sub DEMO2 Folder’ here).

• Now click the subfolder (Sub DEMO2 Folder) created by the Superadmin.

• This action displays its components.
• This subfolder (Sub DEMO2 Folder) has one file (Postgre SQL Query using Output Query) related to the Postgre SQL profile.
• An eye-shaped read-only security icon for the profile (Postgre SQL Query using output Query) is displayed.

Note: It is clear from the above steps that a non-admin prouser (‘Nonadmin Prouser’ here) belongs to the ‘DEMO2’ User Group has no access to delete or modify the subfolder (Sub DEMO2 Folder) or its components created by an Admin prouser (‘Superadmin’ here). However, a non-admin prouser (‘Nonadmin Prouser’ here) has an access to view the subfolder (Sub DEMO2 Folder) or its components in read-only mode.

Note: If the read-only option is added to any folder, subfolder, or sub-subfolder level, the components like files or folders present within them are also encrypted with the read-only mode security option.
