This document explains how to create a connection profile for the Tableau server using DataTrust’s native connector.
Steps to generate personal access token:
- Log in to the Tableau server
2. Click the “Avatar” icon on the top right corner, select “My Account Settings”.
3. Under “My Account Settings”, go to the “Settings” tab. Give a token name and click the pushbutton “Create new token”
4. This will open the popup “Personal access token created successfully”, click pushbutton “Copy to clipboard” and save to someplace safe.
Steps to Identify Tableau API version:
- In order to get the API version, you first need to get the Tableau server version. Once you log into the Tableau server, click the info button and select the option “About Tableau Server”
- This is will give the Tableau server version as follows.

Create connection profile – “Tableau native connector”:
- Log into the application, go to “Admin Console - Profile Explorer”, create a new profile.
- From the profile, “Source Name” dropdown, choose “Tableau”
- Enter the Information gathered in the previous steps (Server, Personal Access Token Name, Personal Access Token Secret”, API Version)
- If there is a specific tableau site you need to connect to, input the “Site” name. Leaving it bank will connect to “Default” site
- Click “Test Connection” and “Save”.
- Now tableau connection is ready to use.
